§ 12.1
Responsible gambling
A hotel handbook that mentions a casino should say where help is. This page lists the official Alberta services, the age rule and the self-exclusion programme, with sources.
12.1.1Help, today
| AHS Addiction and Mental Health Helpline | 1-866-332-2322 or 811 — 24 hours a day, includes gambling |
|---|---|
| GameSense Info Line (AGLC) | 1-833-447-7523 — Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. |
| Emergency | 911 |
Both lines are free to call. The AHS helpline is run by Alberta Health Services and answers around the clock. GameSense is the AGLC's responsible gambling programme; its advisers talk about gambling habits during the hours above.
12.1.2The age rule
- Casinos in Alberta admit adults 18 and over. The AGLC's casino terms define a minor as a person under 18.
- Government-issued ID is required at the casino entrance and at Yuk Yuk's, according to the club's information.
- Being a hotel guest does not change the age rule for the casino floor or the comedy club.
12.1.3Self-exclusion
- What it is. The AGLC Self-Exclusion Program lets a person exclude themselves from Alberta's casinos and racing entertainment centres.
- How long. Six months, one year, two years or three years — the length is chosen by the person.
- Who can sign up. Only the person themselves. Family members cannot enrol someone else.
- Prizes. Participants are not eligible to receive a prize in a gaming facility, under section 34.5 of the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation, as quoted by GameSense.
- With support. GameSense notes that self-exclusion combined with professional support can be among the most effective ways to stop gambling.
12.1.4Signs worth taking seriously
- Spending more time or money on gambling than you planned, again and again.
- Trying to win back losses.
- Borrowing, or hiding gambling from people close to you.
- Feeling anxious or irritable when you try to cut back.
If any of these sound familiar, call one of the lines above. You do not have to be sure there is a problem before you call.
12.1.5How this site handles the casino
- We describe the casino only as a feature of the building: hours, age rule, regulator.
- We do not publish promotions, offers or advice on games.
- We do not link to any gambling website, online or otherwise.
- Every page of this handbook shows the age rule and the AHS helpline in its footer.
The casino's own responsible gaming information is published by the operator and the AGLC.Official site: cnty.com/edmonton ↗
