Racing: the lounge on Fort Road and the track near the airport

Edmonton's live racing moved out of the city in 2019. The same operator runs both the off-track lounge in this building and the new track, so a racing weekend can be split between them.

Section checked against sources on 31 October 2026. Independent guide — not the hotel's website.

5.1.2A short history, from the sources

  1. Northlands Park. Edmonton's old track at Northlands ran its last races after the 2016 season, ending more than a century of racing there, according to Wikipedia's account (a secondary source).
  2. Century Mile opens. The replacement track opened on 1 April 2019 on airport land south of the city. Century Casinos describes it in its annual report as a one-mile racetrack with a casino.
  3. The network. The same filing says Century Mile operates most of Alberta's pari-mutuel network, feeding 23 off-track betting parlours and broadcasting races from more than 90 tracks. The lounge on Fort Road is one of the places that network reaches.

5.1.3The 2026 seasons we could verify

  1. Flat racing. Opening day for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing was Saturday 2 May 2026, first race 3:45 pm, according to the Discover Leduc Region event listing. The tourism body describes the flat season as May through September.
  2. Harness racing. Standardbred Canada reported that Alberta's 2026 schedule has 106 harness race dates across three tracks, 36 of them at Century Mile, raced in the fall and winter.
  3. January additions. In January 2026 Century Mile added Sunday cards on 11 and 18 January, raced every Saturday that month, and set first post at 12:45 pm.
  4. Live racing overall. Discover Leduc says the track runs live racing more than 35 weeks a year.
  5. 2027. No 2027 dates had been published in the sources we read on 31 October 2026.

5.1.4Planning a racing weekend from the hotel

  1. Pick the day first. Live cards run on set days only. Once you know the race day, request the night before or after.
  2. Drive or arrange a ride. Our route below uses the car; we found no direct public transit between Fort Road and the track in the sources we read. The airport bus, Route 747, serves the terminal, not the track.
  3. Use the lounge on the other day. Simulcasts in the off-track lounge run seven days a week according to the hotel, so the non-racing day of a weekend still has racing on screen.
  4. Check the age rule. Century Mile's race days are open to all ages, but the off-track lounge sits inside the 18+ casino.

5.1.5Seasonality and the hotel

Century Casinos notes in its annual report that its off-track parlours attract more customers during the peak racing season from May to August. For a 26-room hotel that is worth knowing: summer racing weekends coincide with festival season in the city, and the rooms go quickly. Send your request early if your trip is built around a big race day.
