§ 11.2
Money and independence
We earn a booking commission when a room request made here becomes a confirmed stay — paid by the hotel or by the booking partner that completes the reservation, never by you. That is the whole business model.
11.2.1The model in five points
- What earns money. Only confirmed stays that started as a request through the form on this site.
- Who pays. The hotel, or the booking partner that completes the reservation, pays us a commission on that stay.
- What you pay us. Nothing. We do not charge a fee for the request and we never ask for card details.
- What earns nothing. Reading the site, clicking through to the hotel's official website, booking directly with the hotel, buying show tickets. The links to the hotel's site carry no tracking tags.
- What is switched off. At the time of writing no advertising network and no affiliate network is connected to this site. There are no ad slots, no sponsored links and no tracking scripts. If that changes, this page will say so first.
11.2.2Why we tell you this
A site that writes about one hotel and also earns from bookings at that hotel has an obvious interest. We think readers deserve to know it before they rely on anything we say. Knowing how a guide is paid is the best way to judge what it writes.
11.2.3How we keep the money away from the text
- The assessment is not for sale. Our list of who should think twice about this hotel — no pool, 26 rooms, an industrial block — stays on the site whether or not anyone books.
- Facts carry sources. If we are wrong, you can see where the mistake came from.
- We point to direct booking. The hotel's own site and phone number appear across the handbook, even though booking that way earns us nothing.
- No payment from the operator for coverage. We have not been paid, hosted or given anything by the hotel or by Century Casinos for writing this handbook.
11.2.4What happens to a request, financially
| Step | Who acts | Money |
|---|---|---|
| You send the form | You | None |
| We check dates and rate | Our desk, with the hotel or a booking partner | None |
| You accept a confirmation | You and the hotel or booking partner | You pay them, under their terms |
| The stay takes place | The hotel | The hotel or partner may pay us a commission |
| The stay is cancelled | You or the hotel | No commission to us |
11.2.5What we will never do
- Ask you for a deposit or card number.
- Add a fee to the hotel's rate.
- Sell your contact details to anyone.
- Change our assessment because of a commission.
Booking directly with the hotel is always possible through its official site.Official site: cnty.com/edmonton ↗
