§ 10.1
A winter arrival checklist
Written 1 November 2026. Edmonton winters shape every trip to Fort Road, and the hotel's best features — an indoor garage and a station next door — are winter features. Here is how to use them.
10.1.1Before the trip
- Ask for an arrival window, not a time. Roads and flights slip in snow. Put a window such as “between 6 and 9 pm” in the request form so the desk is not waiting for a car that is still on the highway.
- Ask about the garage height if you drive something tall. The hotel publishes the garage as free and heated but gives no clearance. A roof box or a van rack can be the difference between indoors and the surface lot.
- Decide on food in advance. In October 2026 the Grill's posted hours were Thursday to Sunday from 4 pm. Arriving on a Monday night, plan on the sports bar or on the microwave and fridge in your room.
- Check the show night. Comedy weekends and concerts fill the building. A winter Saturday with a headliner is not a quiet night on Fort Road.
10.1.2On the way
- From the airport by train. Route 747 leaves the airport from Door 8 and runs from about 4:10 am to 12:30 am. Waiting at Century Park for a connection in January is colder than waiting in a taxi line; decide based on your arrival hour.
- From the airport by taxi. Taxis wait outside Door 9 on the Arrivals level. Fort Road is outside the downtown flat-rate area, so confirm the zone fare before setting off.
- By car. About 39 km from the airport by our calculation. Without traffic, around 42 minutes; in snow, much longer.
- From the station on foot. Belvedere station is close, but the walk is outdoors. Use the walking route in chapter 6 and keep luggage light.
10.1.3On arrival
- Go straight to the garage. Once the car is indoors, it stays dry and warm until you leave — no plug-in, no scraping.
- Set the room temperature yourself. All three room types list individually controlled heating and air conditioning.
- Coffee is in the room. Every room type lists a Keurig machine. The hotel lists no kettle, so if you drink tea, ask for one in your request.
- Know where to swim if you need warmth of another kind. The hotel lists no pool. Clareview Community Recreation Centre, a train stop north, has a whirlpool and a steam room and stays open until 10 pm.
10.1.4Why this hotel works in winter
In summer, the reasons to stay on Fort Road are the shows and the racing. In winter, the reasons are more basic: a heated garage, a station next to the door and an evening programme that does not require going outside. The operator itself picked the garage as the feature that sets the property apart in its annual report. It is not glamorous, but at minus twenty it is the feature you will remember.
The hotel's home page lists the free heated underground parking.Official site: cnty.com/edmonton ↗
